Happy May 1st. Another month gone, another Monday comes.
A couple of weeks ago I was listening to Heart FM, when upon the airwaves came the classic 80's track "Land Down Under" by Men at Work.
Well actually, if I am to be historically accurate, t'was my sister who was listening to Heart FM and I was in the vicinity; just to clear things up and halt any assumptions about my radio station preferences. Anyway, before I stray too far off point, let me realign my position and continue.
Hearing this song led me to think of other "location-centred songs", prompting a post* on my Facebook page, which in turn lead to the creation of a Spotify playlist: 'Location, Location, Location: Music of Place'.
My initial suggestions initiated an influx of place name songs from well-informed folk, throwing in songs and artists that were not on my radar.
While I was thinking Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Australia" by the Manics, my fellow contributors were thinking far less 'mass market', as you can see if you peruse the comments on the post.
It is apparent that the list of songs befitting the criteria is as long and wide as the minds' reach, ever growing and never ending.
Since creating the playlist I have added a few more tracks that have come to mind and will continue to add more, in the hope of creating the most comprehensive 'place song' playlist in existence; because that would be cool, wouldn't it?
If you have any suggestions you feel could/should be added then hit me up in the comments section. You can listen to the playlist via the embedded played below.
Have a great week. May your May be a-May-zing (best I could come up with...sorry).
See you on the other side.
All the best
